Kuvassa näitä puolivalmiita. Laskin viikonlopun kurssin jälkeen, että olisi aineksia lähes lymmeneen koruun, kunhan saan idean kokonaisuuteen, joko tehdä ketjuja, tai koukkuja tai vaikka rintaneulaa. Kokeilin jopa patinointia rikkimaksassa (kylläpä haisi).

In the picture there are some of these half finished parts. After weekend's course I counted that I would have pieces for about 10 finalised pieces of jewelry. I need to create either chains, hooks or something as a way of brooch for finalising these.



Tässä esimerkki hopeasavesta tehdyistä korviksista. Seuraavaa kertaa varten pitää miettiä valon tulemissuunnat ja mahdollisuudet, sillä nyt tausta kiville on tumma ja ametistista on vaikea erottaa sen kaunis violetti sävy. Mutta olen itse tyytyväinen tuohon verkkomaiseen osuuteen, se on selkeästi erilainen kuin mitää saa aikaa suorasta hopeapellistä/levystä.

Here is an example of art clay work, pair of earrings. For the next time I need to think the paths of light and possibilities of it, as now the background of the stones are not reflecting the beautiful violet color of inserted amethysts. But I am myself satisfied with the netlike part of the piece as this would be challenging to achieve using traditional silver sheet.

Koruilijan taivas - Heaven for hobby jewellery maker

Terveisiä Korutekniikka -kursseilta Lahden Muotoiluinstituutista! Jotta taso olisi alunperin asetettu oikein, opettaja tituleerasi meitä "Nolla-kurssilaisiksi" (siis 0-tason). Kyse on avoimen ammattikorkeakoulun kurssista, jonne meitä on tällä kertaa tullut 11 kpl innostuneita oppimaan uusia asioita ja erityisesti korujen tekoon liittyviä perustyömenetelmiä alkaen viilaamisesta ja sahaamisesta ja nyt kolmantena päivänä pienet pyromaanialut harjoittelivat juottamista.

Greetings from Basic Work Methods for Jewellery Making course from Lahti Institute of Design! In order to set the target level right, our teacher nominated us the "Zero level" participants (as compared to ordinary degree students). This is an open institute course, where this time 11 persons were willing to spent some learning effort on basic stuff like sawing, filing and today on the 3rd day in a row, we were doing some soldering exercises.



Ensimmäisiä perusajatuksia mietittäväksi on pikkuaivojen liikemuisti eli käsillä tekemään oppii vain tekemällä! Vaikka silmäsi näkevät asian jotenkin, niin ennenkuin se näky siirtyy tekemiseksi, tarvitaan opetusprosessi käden ja silmän yhteistyöksi. Näin ollen olemme viilanneet ja sahanneet jo kaksi kokonaista päivää (on muuten rankkaa kropalle!). Jos kurssilla pitää saada koko levy sahattua läpi noita salmiakkeja, niin saan kyllä olla kurssilla ainakin jouluun asti (siis jos en opi aiemmin :-) ). Puikko on puolestaan puolivalmis viilausharjoite.

The first learnings have been about the kinetic memory, which means that in order to do handicraft you need to teach the movements to your brain. Even if you see something, before that vision translates into a shape, you need to do a lot of exercise for that. So for two full first days we have filed and sawed until ours bodies hurt. If we are supposed to get these exercises , especially sawing the rectangles from a plate finished for passing this course, I think , I need to continue until Xmas :-), that is, if I don't learn this quicker. The pin in the picture is our filing exercise (also currently half done).

Mutta päätellen hymystäni tämä on kivaa!

But judging from my smile this is truly fun!

Kurssilla oppii myös paljon ns. oheisjuttuja, eli kullakin harrastajalla on oma mielijutut, kaupat ja jipot (Sairan pesukonejippo hopeamyllytykseksi on yliveto) ja niitä auliisti jaamme toisillemme. Täällä ei naureta toisten virheille, mieluummin hymyillään sympaattisesti ja toivotetaan parempaa jatkoon.

Of course, when so many hobbyists gather together, you don't only learn what is in the agenda, but also a lot of extra like the best places to shop for materials, books to buy, gimmicks how to imitate some more professional tools at home ( I just love Saira's washing machine for silver tumble) etc. Here nobody laughss at each other's mistakes, instead you get a mental pat on shoulder and wish for better success next time.

Now I start to do mental exercises on the things learned do far and to ponder what to create for execise, as we already got the specs for that.

3 D alkeita /3 D basics

Et koskaan tunne toista ihmistä täysin, vai mitä?

Siskokin yllätti minut iloisesti, sillä kaikkien viikonlopun projektien tiimoilta törmäsin aarrelaatikkoon, jossa oli korttimateriaaleja.

Näin ollen hyvän tovin sunnuntaita, sillä aikaa kun sisko kasasi tyynyjäni, askartelin elämäni ekat 3-D kortit. Tämä(kin)(hän) oli kivaa! Luulenpa, että jossain tilanteessa hankin matskuja itsellekin, onhan noita synttäreitä jne, joihin voi kortin laittaa.

You never know the other person too well, do you?

While we were doing our creative works during the weekend, I found from my sister's treasury (work room) a box full of materials for card making.

So, while she was completing the sewing of the pillows for me, I tried out my first ever 3D cards.

(Even)(also) this was fun! So, don't be surprised to find me in handcraft material shop buying materials in the future. After all, most people have a birthday or so, and it is nice to remember with a handmade card.

Ensikirjaus; The very first entry

Olen matkalla, en tiedä mihin. Mutta tämä matka alkoi, kun astuin eka kerran askarteluliikkeeseen hakeakseni kaulanauhan korjausta varten siimaa. Sillä käynnillä olen vieläkin, noin kolme-neljä kuukautta myöhemmin. Minulle avautui mahdollisuuksien keidas luovuuteen ja tekemiseen iloon.

Ajattelin kirjoittaa siitä. Työt ja kuvat kertyvät kuvagalleriaani, toki laitan jotain tännekin, ehkä taustaa tai muuta kiva, en tiedä.

Matka alkaa...........

I am on a journey, dunno, where yet. But this journey began, when I for the first time entered a handicraft shop in order to find a piece of wire for mending a broken necklace. I am still there, after 3-4 months (psychologically). The oasis of self-actualisation creativity has burst open and I have discovered so many joys while designing and making my own jewellery.

I plan on writing about this (journey). Works and pics will be gathered to my elsewhere pic gallery, but I will share here some as we go, maybe also some background or some other fun.
