Joulun jälkeen - After Xmas

En tiedä kumpi on mukavampaa - joululahjan teko vai sen paketin tekeminen ? Tässä siskoilleni menneitä koruja. En ole kauheasti harrastanut näitä hopeaketjuja, mutta pakko nöyrtyä, kun nuo omat korudisaineritaidot eivät ole hirveän korkeat, ei kehtaa lahjoiksi asti tehdä.

Täytyy kuitenkin sanoa, että livenä nuo ranneketjut olivat tosi kivoja ja niinpä innostuin värkkäämään itsellenikin yhtä.

Taidanpa naisellisesti vaihtaa mielipidettäni ketjuista, tämäkin on antoisaa ja näitä voi koota ihan keittiönpöydän ääressä ihmisten ilmoilla.

Dunno, which is more fun: creating Xmas presents or the packaging for them? These are presents for my sisters. I have not created too many silver chains so far, but I had to be humble here, as my own jewellery designs I do not dare to give as presents yet (due to my meagre skills).

But I must say, that the end result, again, was worthwhile and I really need to change my opinion in a fly. This is once again very nice waste of time and you can assemble these sitting by your kitchen table, no need to hide away due to any rubbish or noise.

Toinen sisko sai Oili-ketjuun sopivat korvikset ja mallia "Inverted Round" olevan ranneketjun, jossa AR4 eli 1mm lanka ja 4 mm sisähalkaisija, oikein passeli.

One sister got earrings suited for her Flowers-chain and bracelet model "Inverted Round" with AR4 (1mm WD, 4 mm ID).

Toista lahjoin Kuningatar-ketjulla, josta 4mm halkaisijalla (1mm lanka eli AR4) tuli hiukan suorakaiteen oloinen ketju.

Other one got Boxchain bracelet (also referred as Queen's chain) with AR4 (WD 1mm, ID 4mm), with this it resulted into little bit rectangular rather than square profiled chain.

Oma mattoni jäi kesken, kun kaikki hopeat tuli jo sahattua, omasta jäi uupuun 2 cm. Joten täytyy taas pyhien jälkeen tilata hopeaa........ :-)

My own European 4 by 1 bracelet did not get finished yet, as I managed to saw into rings all my wire and the right size ran out. So I need to order some more silver after holidays .... :-)

Marraskuun sormus - November ring

Kaamoksen keskellä huono kuva, mutta uutta valmista. Ylpeä olen siitä, että olen saanut edes kivet kiinni, mutta laatutarkastelu osoittaa isomman kiven olevan vinossa. Mulla on selkeästi prosessivika. Analyysini perusteella on vaikea saada kiveä kiinni suoraan, kun sitä työskennellessä tarkastalee pää vinossa :-) No, jahka taas intoudun, niin nappaan sen irti ja kerään tarmoni ja laitan sen kiinni (suoraan). Tekemällä oppii?

In the middle of winter darkness the picture is bad (bad macro). I am proud though that I achived at least the stone setting, but my quality control shows again the bogger stone to be askew. I seem to have a flwa in my work methods, as when setting the stone I tend to observe the work head bend, so the stone gets askew as well :-). Well, whe I get energy again, I will re-set the stone (straight this time).

Istukka on jo paljon pienempi, eikä niin karkea kuin edellinen. Tää vaatii kyllä kärsivällisyyttä. Hoksasin muuten miksi hopeakorujen tekeminen on niin kivaa, tää vaatii aika paljon ratkaisukykyä ja on välillä tosi haastavaa (ainakin polville, sillä nuo kivet pomppaa työstä pois ja sitten konttaan autotallin lattialla niitä hakemassa).

The stone mount is much smaller and not so coarse as the previous work, so I am getting better and more skillfu. This really requires patience. I, by the way, finally got the idea why silver jewellery making is so much fun. It really developps your solution finding skills and is quite challenging 8at least for my knees, as the stones keep jumping away from the work and I end up kneeling on the garage floor in trying to find the lost ones).

Pitkästä aikaa koruja! - Long time, no see, but finally jewellery!

Mulla on menossa korujen teon suhteen kausi, jolloin haluan oppia uusia tekniikoita tai muita juttuja, joilla laajentaa osaamistaan. Niinpä niitä valmiita tuotteita syntyy tosi harvaan, Käsityö kun todella on yritystä ja erehdystä. Tähän rannekoruun (ihan eka lukolla ja saranalla!) on mennyt lukematon määrä kurssi-iltoja kansalaisopistolla. Yhden illan juotin saranaa, toisen onnistuin sulattamaan ne pois tai pois paikoiltaan jne. Epätoivo valtasi mielen, mutta ihme tapahtui. Eilen vihdoin sain sen siihen vaiheeseen, että siinä on about toimiva lukko ja saranakin ehjänä. Istuin viilaamassa ja kiillottamassa pari tuntia autotallissa. Wit jewellery making I am in a phase where I want to learn new techniques or gigs to incorpate to my designs. It means that I do not finish pieces ever so often. Here is my very first bracelet with hinge and lock. It has taken me countless session in the evening course at the local school. One evening I spent soldering the hinge, while the during the next one I managed to melt almost away and so on. Making things with your hands is really a trial and error thing! But the result fulfills the HQS criteria (hobbyist quality standards): it looks like a bracelet, it fits my hand and it stays in one piece.

Live about 1 cm long and 1.5 mm wide - livenä sentin mittainen 1.5 mm paksu tuubi...

Lukko pitää ja jopa naksahtaa kiinni. Ulkonäkö on aika agraari.

The lock holds and even clicks when closing, but the design looks rather agrarian.

Koko komeus, ja mä olen itse ihan onnessani ja uskon taas kovasti itseeni. Ehkä tässä harrastamisen ZEN?

A week from the last posting I finished couple of other project with decoupage: coathangers and flower pot.

Yhden hengarin vein töihin takilleni (kiva ihailla) ja toisen lahjoin pois. Kukkapurkkiin istutin talven iloksi jonkun ananaskasvin.

I took one hanger to my office for my coat while one I gave a present away. I planted to the pot sonme type of pineapplie to cheer me up during dark winter months.

Vielä yksi projekti on kuvaamatta, mutta siinä on ongelma. Se oli se bravuurinumero, mutta lokerikon laatikko jumittaa, ei olisi pitänyt laittaa kokonaan ympäri. Pohdin ratkaisua...

One project needs photographing, but there is a problem. One drawer got stuck when I made decoupage all over. Now I am wondering about the solution.....

Not so easy crafting always?

Viikonlopun decoupaget - Weekends decoupages

Hurraa keski-ikäisyys! Hain kissojen ja koirien avulla lasinalusia kaupoista, löysin vain joitain yksinkertaisia korkkijuttuja tai kalliita Alessin teräshienouksia. Siinä kohden vasta hoksasin, että ttenpä ne sitten itse. Suunnaksi askarteluliike, johon sittemmin upposi isompi summa rahaa kuin ne Alessin lasinaluset olisivat maksaneet, mutta onpahan melkein eläkkeelle asti decooupagepaperia, krakleerauslakkaa hileellä ja ilman, puuaihioita yms yms, mitä käsi otti mukaan.

Hurray fir middleages! I seached vigorously glass tablets, only to find dummy plates made of cork (cheap and ugly) or high-end stainless ones from Alessi (chic and expensive). Only then I realised that this would be wonderful crafting project and I headed for a local crafts store where I ended up spending far more than the Alessi gear would have costed me. Well now I have until retairment a stock of cracklering lack (with gloss and without), decoupage papers, plus wooden material for projects.

A small pot got the same treatment. I think I will take this to my office for pencil storage and to wait for a new gardening season.

Viikonlopun vierasprojektit - Guest projects from the weekend

Siskon luona kylillä askarteluinto saa ylivallan, vaikka etukäteen mainostin, ettei ole erityisiä ajatuksia, ideoita tai tarpeita.

During the weekend visit at sister's, the craze for crafting got overgrip to existence, although beforehand I claimed not to have too many ideas or needs.

Nyt on sitten mökille syksyn värit tulossa ja mieleiset tyynytkin. Sutta ja segundaa -osasto toimi kanssa, koska jouduin harjoittelemaan siskon ufokoneella ompelua. Lopputulos oli, että sitten purettiin ja korjailtiin, mutta toisaalta opin muutaman uuden jutun ompelunsaloista (eipä ollut tullut esille koulun tekstiilityössäkään).

Now I have new colors to the summer cottage. I needed to redo my works, as sister made me try out her futuristic sewing machine. But I learned some tricks on sewing that I had never learned at the school textile and home economics classes.



Jälleen kerran pitkä viikonloppu oli lähes liian lyhyt workshoppailuun, mutta sisko kiittää, kun vieras tajuaa jo kohta lähteä taas kotiin päin !

Once again the long weekend proved to be too short for workshopping on this scale, byt sister thanks that her visitor finally understands to leave for home!

Yksi pikaprojekti, jonka inspis syntyi ulkomaan Ikeassa eli siskon ja sen naapurin kanssa hamstrasimme Haaparannan Ikeassa. Siellä oli tullut syksyn uutuuksia ja erityinen stoppi oli kangasosasto. Itselleni ostin vanhanajan raitakangasta pöytäliinaksi ja samalla sain leikata palan siskollekin. Mutta pöytäliinan sijasta se päätyi hänen tuolien istuimien uudeksi kuosiksi. Palanen nostalgiaa?




One quick project, that got it's origin in Ikea "abroad". We went with sister and her neighbour to Ikea in Haparanda (Sweden) to get new ideas on newly arrived autumn collection. I cut a piece fo this fabric for my table cloth, but needed to cut another for my sister, too. But this one ended up as new upholstery to her chairs. Little piece of nostalgy, not?
