Torstai on toivoa täynnä - Thursday is full of hope

Ilottelu Lahdessa jatkuu! Kuvassa juotosharjoituksia ja sormus ennen hopeiointia, näillä ei Masa Yardsille juottohommiin päästä, mutta ehkä tässä vielä kunnian kukko laulaa, kun vaan jaksaa sitkeästi tehdä annettuja harjoituksia.

Siitä puheen ollen tänään aloitin nöyrästi uudelleen juottamalla sormusaihion, kun se ei oikein ollut pahemma tarkastelun väärti. No, sitten se repesi ja jatkoin aamupäivän muotoilemalla sormuksen tasalaatuiseksi aihioksi (eli olisi pyöreä ja tasaleveä). Siinä meni sitten aikaa, kun se alkuperäisen levyn leikkasin hiukan sinne päin. Sitten ei antanut sisu periksi, vaan piti viilata toisen puolen puolikkaan ylimääräinen puolitoista millinen osuus pois. Samalla lyheni taas kynnet hiukan.

Yksi asia johti toiseen ja oikean harjoituksen sijaan pusasin tuota sormusta.

Having fun in Lahti continues! In the picture our soldering exercises and the ring before silver plating. I would not get the job in shipyard Masa Yards with the quality of work, but it will do for now and I hope to master the skill during the coming week or so, if humbly fulfilling the exercises.

Talking about that, I, of course, took my own path again and continued working with the ring, starting by re-soldering the bad seam from yesterday. Then I wanted to make it into even shape (round and even sided), byt since I cut the starting piece just like that, the half of the one side was 1, 5 mm too much. Filing took until lunch, but I did it with Finnish sisu (stamina). Also my nails got halved at the same time.

Lopputulos oli oikea yhteistyö: kurssikaverilta jäi yli messinkipala melkein loppuun asti viilattuna suunnikkaana viilausharjoituksesta. Pikkuisen viilaa muotoiluun pohjalle ja se löysi kokkapaikan sormuksesta. Juottamiseen sain laitettua kolme varttia, kun ne kappaleet lipsuivat sinne sun tänne, enkä voinut tohottaa komistusta. Ope hopeoi kappaleen näyttäen meille samallla kuinka se käy. Touhussa käytetään tosimyrkyllistä syanidiliuosta ja hän halusi, että pääsemme kurssille huomennakin.

Hopeioinnin jälkeen viilasin messinkikeskiosan näkyviin ja tuloksena oli kaksivärinen sormus, hopeaa ja messinkia.

Final piece was a real result of co-operation! One fellow student lady sawed a piece of almost ready filed brass cube out of her filing exercise. After some filing for suitable shape to join the ring, I soldered it to ring for focal piece. It took me 45 minutes to solder, mostly because the pieces kept falling over and I could not apply the torch to the work. Teacher, on the other hand, plated the whole gorgeourness with silver. I finalised the piece by filing away the silver from the brass cube and the result is a two-colored silver and brass ring.

Ok, viilausharjoitus jäi sitten kesken vaiheeseen "kärähtänyt makkarakeppi", koska kiiruissani viilasin sen kahtia :-) Nyt pitää nöyrästi juottaa se yhteen (tai sitten viilata koko päivä sekä kierre, että salmiakit). Eka juotos tuotti sutta.

Okay, the filing exercise is still unfinished im a state of "barbecued fork", because in a hurry I managed to file it into two pieces. I have two alternatives, either I will manage to solder it into one piece tomorrow or I will start over the full day filing of the screw and the rectangles.
